the unexpected
Aaah so many trends in one outfit! Can you spot them? lol
This was such a satisfying outfit. I knew that I was in the mood to wear a dark lipcolor today. And everything else followed. I thought it would be interesting to echo the lacy look of the necklace in the head scarf.I like the contrast of the light chambray with the dark oxblood skirt. There is also a high-low contrast with the laid-backness of the chambray and maxi paired with a lacy scarf and necklace.

To me, fashion is all about contrast and the unexpected. When putting together an outfit, I always think "how can this be taken to the next level? what unexpected element can I put in?" There are so many ways to accomplish this. The unexpected piece creates a contrast that is intriguing and pleasing to the eye. You can contrast styles (bohemian and classic), high-low (dressy and casual), or silhouette (wearing one fitted piece and one chunky). And of course you can contrast colors- which is really what the black and white trend is all about, and the whole principle of "pop"- as in pairing a mostly neutral outfit with something that pops like a bright lipstick, bag, or shoes.
I am always talking about contrast when picking out flowers, house decorations, or even food. (My husband now makes fun of me). Like, "I love how the red roses are contrasted with the yellow wall," or "Isn't it beautiful how the butternut squash soup contrasts with our jade green dishes?" aah, so satisfying.
To me, contrast = fashion.
What do you think? How do you define fashion?

For someone who has a blog full of style stuff (well, style for head, not so much the rest of me), I have very little notion of what makes fashion. I tend to go for whatever makes me happy to wear, which mostly works out to what makes me look good to me.
ReplyDeletesounds good- I believe in doing whatever makes you happy :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely love adding unexpected elements to outfits--that makes getting dressed so fun! I like your sparkly necklace!
