DIY denim vest

So I have a denim jacket (gap) a few years ago, but I barely wear it because I find it too bulky on me, especially the sleeves. I decided it was time for some updating. Again, this was very much spur-of-the-moment, where I just looked around my house to see what I could use.

Here is what I did: I cut off the sleeves neatly. I found some pastel yarn. For each sleeve, I braided three sets of braids, and then braided them together, using strands long enough to go around the sleeve holes. (That is a total of six braids; or 18 strands of yarn. Each braid by itself was not substantial enough for me, so that's why I braided three together to create a ribbon.) Then I hand-sewed the ribbon around the sleeveholes.

And that's my denim vest! Even though I wouldn't say that it is "in style" or anything, I actually really like it because of the soft colors and texture. That is such a break from the expected harder embellishments on denim, like studs or leather.
