sunday field trip

Yesterday, my loving husband said that he would take care of our baby so that I could enjoy some art. I went to two museums, Neue Galerie (neuegalerie.org) and the National Academy Museum (nationalacademy.org), and the colors of the paintings were sooo amazing.
At Neue Galerie, Gustav Klimt's paintings used patterns to delineate figures and backgrounds, instead of traditional lines and shadows. The famous portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer definitely had me entranced. In the gallery bookstore, I spotted a book about the backstory of the painting's subject, The Lady in Gold by Anne Marie O'Connor, which I am very interested in reading.

Also at the Neue Galerie, I was introduced to Egon Schiele's art. I would describe it as intriguing, architectural, and frank in its subjects and depiction; his paintings have been controversial because of their eroticism.
At the National Academy, I really enjoyed the bright colors and large canvases of American artists in the 20th century, like Paul Resika and Paul Georges. I found the lines and colors used by Leland Bell to be very satisfying.
This one is ironic-its called the mugging of the muse. no-art.info. Georges
